Processes

Precise, efficient, resource-saving.

Cold forming as a core process

By using the cold (solid) forming manufacturing process, we are able to produce workpieces and semi-finished products in complex shapes in a highly economical manner. At the same time, we can use this process to specifically influence the workpiece and component properties and thus respond to individual customer wishes and requirements. Cold (solid) forming allows us to achieve the highest quality standards. Existing resources are used in the best possible way by subjecting the metallic material, usually starting from a wire section, to defined cross-section and thickness changes on horizontal presses in multi-stage forming tools designed in-house.

Advantages

Elimination of heating of the formed material

“Pressing to the width of a hair” in (near) net-shape quality; i.e. high dimensional and shape accuracy

High manufacturing productivity (high volumes)

High achievable surface finishes

Conservation of resources (material savings, low material losses)

Setting of defined structural-mechanical properties possible

Thread cutting

The thread is an elementary component of the fasteners and is therefore considered with great attention in the process chain. Our single and twin-spindle automatic thread cutting machines form and cut the thread in our HEWI products and are subject to constant, statistical process controls via the system.

Heat treatment

HEWI uses two continuous tempering systems. Specific structural-mechanical properties can be defined by means of a heat treatment tailored to the respective material consisting of hardening/austenitizing with subsequent tempering. HEWI recovers energy from this energy-intensive production process and feeds this heat back into the factory.

Surface coating

Thanks to our galvanic, zinc and zinc alloy coatings as well as zinc lamella coatings, we guarantee not only corrosion protection but also constant friction coefficients and optimum assembly at the customer’s premises.

Tempering

Within electrochemical processes, there is a risk of hydrogen-induced (delayed) brittle fracture due to the penetration of H2 into the component. Hydrogen de-embrittlement/tempering causes the hydrogen to effuse out of the material; this prevents damage to the structure.

Plastic parts production

At HEWI, we manufacture the plastic rings for the production of our fasteners from various materials on our in-house plastic injection molding machines. Liquefied plastic granules are injected under high pressure into a die and molded. This enables large batch sizes of complex products at low cost and high environmental compatibility.

Finishing

At HEWI, we understand finishing to mean the processing of pre-formed press blanks that have to be reworked by machining due to special contours and tolerances. Depending on the output quantity, our rotary transfer machines and CNC machines process the blanks quickly, cleanly and to the highest standards.

Control

Stable processes are the basis of our production control, which is why machine capability and process capability are constantly monitored. In addition, our products are individually tested electronically in accordance with customer specifications where necessary.
